The key idea

Understand the rule first

Unfold in the reverse order of folding. At every unfold, copy each existing hole to the same distance on the opposite side of that fold line.

Worked example

A square is folded once vertically and one hole is punched away from the crease. What appears when opened?

  1. There is one fold, so one mirror step.
  2. The original hole remains.
  3. A second hole appears equally far across the vertical crease.
